    Default Watchmen

Watchmen is a twelve-issue comic book limited series created by writer Alan Moore, artist Dave Gibbons, and colorist John Higgins. The series was published by DC Comics in single issues during 1986 and 1987, and has been subsequently reprinted in collected form. Watchmen originated from a story proposal Moore submitted to DC featuring superhero characters that the company had acquired from Charlton Comics. As Moore's proposed story would have left many of the characters unusable for future stories, managing editor Dick Giordano convinced the writer to create original characters instead.

Moore used the story as a means to reflect contemporary anxieties and to deconstruct the superhero concept. Watchmen takes place in an alternate history United States where the country is edging closer to a nuclear war with the Soviet Union, freelance costumed vigilantes have been outlawed and most costumed superheroes are in retirement or working for the government. The story focuses on the personal development and struggles of the protagonists as an investigation into the murder of a government sponsored superhero pulls them out of retirement and eventually leads them to confront a plot by one of their own to stave off nuclear war by killing millions of innocent people.

Seriously if you call yourself a comic fan READ THIS! The film is looking to be rubbish if you don't follow the story properly and since it's very character based i don't think you'll come away happy if you just watch it on the big screen. And CEK i'd have thought this would have been ancient reading for you!

(NB - Just read Superman Red Son.....highly recommended and very clever title).

I've known of the Watchmen for years, just never really got around to reading them. Had actually been looking for them so I could get more details about the characters so I wouldn't be disappointed with the film. Can you believe they have rated it 18 ?

I liked Red Son as well, Elseworlds stories are great.

    Watchmen [Absolute-Remixed Edition] [Completed]

Watchmen is a twelve-issue comic book limited series created by writer Alan Moore, artist Dave Gibbons, and colorist John Higgins. The series was published by DC Comics in single issues during 1986 and 1987, and has been subsequently reprinted in collected form. Watchmen originated from a story proposal Moore submitted to DC featuring superhero characters that the company had acquired from Charlton Comics. As Moore's proposed story would have left many of the characters unusable for future stories, managing editor Dick Giordano convinced the writer to create original characters instead.

In 1987, Graphitti Design produced a special limited edition, slipcased hardcover volume that contained 48 pages of bonus material, including the original proposal and concept art. In 2005, DC released Absolute Watchmen, an oversized slipcased hardcover edition of the series in DC's Absolute Edition format. Assembled under the supervision of Dave Gibbons, Absolute Watchmen included the Graphitti materials, as well as restored and recolored art by John Higgins.

Watchmen has received critical acclaim both in the comics and mainstream press, and is regarded by critics as a seminal text of the comic book medium. After a number of attempts to adapt the series into a feature film, director Zack Snyder's Watchmen was released in March 2009.

But it should be noted that they are marked as "remixed" because between the original covers, you'll find the remastered versions of the story pages. And additionally you have another file containing all the extras from the Absolute Edition as well.

I'm not sure comicfan_555's Watchmen's version as I didn't DL the posted links. But judging from the RS links ID, I assume its an old Watchmen scan from the original 1986-87 comic that has been scattered on the net for a very long time.

While my Watchmen uploaded is a new scan which comes from the 2005 Absolute Edition book with a restored and recolored treatment. It's only been released and available a shy few months ago. Just read my "Released Note" above or wiki Watchmen for more info about the multiple versions.

Few of my links have been blocked. I will try to reupload again and post a new links.
