Due for release in Japan at the end of 2010, Capcom have confirmed that their will be a EUR & USA release but dates have not yet been confirmed
Monster Hunter Freedom 3 is a direct sequel to Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. In Japan, Unite is known as Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G, and it's by far the best selling PSP game ever there, with shipments expected to cross four million by the end of this month.
It's shouldn't come as a surprise that Capcom scheduled a full press conference to unveil Freedom 3, which will be known in Japan as Monster Hunter Portable 3rd. In attendance at the event were Capcom CEO Haruhiro Tsujimoto, Monster Hunter series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto (Haruhiro's son), and even Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Kaz Hirai.
Tsujimoto (Junior) introduced a few features for the sequel, including the new Yukumo Village, which he described as being more colorful than the villages of past Monster Hunter games. This village also features a hot springs area, which featured heavily in a trailer shown at the event, although we're not sure just yet what the facility is used for. Tsujimoto also promised new weapons and new field types.
The big feature for 3rd, at least in the areas that Capcom was willing to talk about, appears to be the new Felyne Comrade system. In Freedom Unite, you had a cat-like Felyne critter accompanying you on your hunts. Freedom 3 will let you take two Felynes with you. Additionally, you'll be able to customize the Felynes with armor and weapons.
Hirai took the stage towards the end of the event and promised to support Capcom in pushing Monster Hunter Freedom 3 beyond the four million of Freedom Unite. PSP is currently at the top of the hardware charts in Japan, and a sequel to its biggest game could keep the momentum going.
Freedom 3's release will be preceded in Japan by another Monster Hunter game, Monster Hunter Diary Poka Poka Airu Village, a spinoff title that focuses on the Felyne character. This will see PSP release in August, Capcom also announced at the event.
