    Default PS3 "Recovery Mode" discovered.

1ra2, a member of the french website ps3gen.fr, has discovered a "Recovery Mode" on his PS3. It's probably a new mode since the last update 2.50 - it's thought that this mode allows you to restore Playstation 3 after a bad update.

    English translation courtesy of google...

Updated: New Video - Added method to start the recovery!

This is due to mishandling that our member 1ra2 fell on a "menu recovery". I can already see some hands rose to ask: "but what is it exactly?"

In short, this is some sort of life insurance on your Playstation 3. In case of problems, mishandling, or for example if you turn off your Playstation 3 for an update and subsequently your console does responding to what it is, this mode provides functions that could save your PS3 in case of failure.

In trying to reboot the console and supported a few seconds remaining on the Power button, 1ra2 that fell on this:

It is certainly a novelty from the latest Firmware 2.50. A function really interesting and very useful to avoid many of us send our console after sales service. In addition our dear member offers a video of his find:

A good initiative from Sony in any case, but why did it not been announced in the news? Now it remains to be seen if this method works properly when real problem.

    Updated:

1ra2 us a second video of better quality and less noisy:

YouTube - Menu Recovery PS3 meilleur qualite

    How to run it?

You want to run it yourself? Here is the method:

    - Lit on the PS3 XMB, keep pressing the button On / Off running of Playstation 3 (do not release the button until it is extinguished).

    - Once this is done, turn the Playstation 3 button On / Off while now supported. After 5 seconds, you hear a beep, then 2 seconds later, a double beep. You can then release the button.

The recovery began then. Connect your controller to your PlayStation 3 with a USB cable, and then press the PS button. You can then enjoy the recovery mode!

You realize you're saying this on a piracy site, why you hope it doesn't anyways?

the ISO's would just be rediculous, check out the ISO's for xbox360 like 50 links for one game, but it would be good if ther was a way to play ps2 games on it or even ps1. (i have the 40gb btw)

well when you enter the recovery mode it asks you to insert the media with the firmware backup, surely this is an open door?
