PS3 Goes 3D

PlayStation 3 owners with 3D capable televisions can prepare to go to a new dimension.

Sony announced plans to introduce full stereoscopic 3D gaming to its console starting tomorrow in North America. The company already made a similar announcement for European territories.

The first batch of 3D games and demos that will be available for download are: WipEout HD (full game), Super Stardust HD (full game), Pain, MotorStorm Pacific Rift (demo). Those who purchase one of Sony's new 3D capable Bravia HDTVs will receive a voucher code to download these games for free on PlayStation Network.

Additionally, The Fight: Lights Out, a game first shown at the Game Developers Conference this past year that uses the Move controller, will now support 3D.

SCEA president Jack Tretton noted during a press conference held in Los Angeles today that Sony will release 20 games built for 3D over the next year.

Sony also said 3D Blu-ray movie playback is coming to the PS3 this year through a new firmware update.

this looks interesting and expect a firmware update tomorrow..

yeah, you have to wear the glasses. thats one reason i don't think this fad is going to take off. i pay 4g's for a tv, i don't want to have to wear headgear to enjoy it. and what about Invincible Tiger? it came out last august. wasn't that 3d capable.

thats exactly what i was thinking..to me that would cause more people to go blind..and yeah invincible tiger is in 3D..

always thought a 3D TV would be stupid this just proves it, giving away free games just to entice people to buy a gimmick. I wouldnt mind one of those LED TV's though, nice and thin.

i seen a 110" x 1/4" plasma from panasonic showcased at an electronics show last year that was priced at 90,000us. i was going to send it as an x-mas gift, but couldn't afford the shipping.

Yeah they pushing the 3-d (gotta love the free glasses for a 2500$ tv ) its really a chicken/egg type deal, they trying to get in on ground floor and help push the product along. I truly dont see this taking off, but ppl said the same thing about blu-ray....and no one uses that now adays.

an interesting side note, believe it or not porn controls most of these mediums. if the porn market starts investing money in a medium it usually does well, and the 1st 3-d porn flik is supposed to be released very soon or was just released recently. justsayin

If porn is going to be the thing that hikes up the TV sales..then those people thats buying it for that reason must be really desperate

There's TV technology out there to give a 3D image with no overspecs...for instance the TV sets with slightly parabolic screens which can project an image into the air. However, they're ludicrously expensive and would probably require special recording techniques to work properly.

I don't see 3D becoming the next big thing because of the mass of problems that will inevitably occur with it.
