Default Why everyone thinks that the PS3 games are about 40gb?

I've read several posts about the 'hack' of the PS3 console and everyone is complaining that it does not make sense since if it is hacked the games will be about 40gb?

If one game is 7.5gb for XBOX360 it will the same size for PS3. So no - you won't be downloading 40gb of a single game. Just the media - BluRay - is different and allow more space allocation. As far as I know the only 'bigger' game is God Of War 3 (around 35gb). But after all this is God of War 3 - a must buy!

So it will be cool - and do not worry - the games will be the same size - may be only the special ones for PS3.

And don't get me wrong - I don't mind buying games - just most of them are real waste of money after you play for an hour or two.

I got PS3 and XBOX 360 (hacked) and I am 'testing' the games on the XBOX and the worthy ones I buy for the PS3.

Because the bluray media is so robust, game dvelpopers will and do add less compressed video and are generally more comfortable with their data management. A bluray disc is a bluray disc - they dont save money by being more efficient. So yeah, youre right that most PS3 games are not 10gb+, but they can be and some certainly are (FF13 for example was 38gb most of which was just pure pre-rendered videos). The problem, as I stated before, is burning the games. Bluray discs are stupid expensive and so are the burners. Wait till they cheapen up, then you will see ps3 piracy explode.

I'd also imagine far less compression of the original data (not inherent format compression mind you) on a Blu Ray disc because of the wavelength of the laser required to read the data. Blu Ray reads more slowly, and adding more compression would probably be bad, leading to increased sizes of games over the 360 versions.

That's guesswork mind you...after all if you could eliminate the bucket headed voice track on FFXII wouldn't you do it?

I own both the Xbox and PS3 and can call BS on this comment, GRAW2 on xbox had to DL weapon packs, Map packs about 2gb of stuff that came standard on the ps3 disc. Sure maybe alot of games it is close but the ones i have I always have to download something off XBL
