Yes you can use 6.60 CFW. The ups is that you'll be able to use PSN and play the latest games without bugs that occur on M33 since M33 doesn't have the required prx files to run some of the latest games. Why don't you just try it out? If you don't like it then simply downgrade back to 5.00 M33-6.
You need to update to 6.60 Official Firmware first. You place PROUPDATE and CIPL_Flasher in the PSP/GAME folder, then run PROUPDATE and install it then run CIPL Flasher and install it to have a permanent CFW.

Being a long time 5.00 M33-6 user myself, it took me a while before I finally moved onto higher CFWs (for me it was 6.20 PRO). Any of the PRO CFW, I think you won't notice a big difference aside from better compatibility with current homebrew and more features and less worries about getting a patches for a particular game. If for some reason, it is not your taste, pandora back to 5.00 M33-6. Just my two cents.
PRO installation should be the following.
Official firmware version -> PRO Update -> Permanent Patch
