It is really greedy companies that control the government. People wonder why the economy is so bad and companies blame people who-ahem, distribute certain files-to people not buying their products. The irony is that they don't realize that in many cases, that distribution is what leads people to buy their products in many cases.

Take this as an example: You see a product you are interested in. However, you know nothing about it and the price is very high (perhaps another reason why people don't rush to buy?)... You see a similar product that you can try for free but they eventually want you to buy it. Which are you more likely to use? Which are you more likely to buy?

Companies just don't understand that anymore. They no longer look at the long term but instead focus on the short term. This is also why we get so many bad games these days. Instead of focusing on quality, companies are more interested in pumping out titles. So instead of spending 5 years to make a perfect game, they now pump out 5+ games in those five years, sometimes even 5+ in a single year, and hope that one of those titles will be a hit. Yes, they might bomb all but one, but as long as one succeeds out of every five or even 15, they will make more than if they spent those five years making one perfect game and with any luck, more than one will be a hit.

Now, that isn't to say that all companies that make games in rapid succession are doing a bad job. Some companies work hard to make good games quickly. But you can often see which companies are just in it for the money.

Also as an example. A few years back, I spend about 10,000 USD in a SINGLE YEAR. Why? Because I was buying everything I liked. Stuff I had gotten and liked? That I had downloaded from outside sources? Yeah, all of those. I bought everything I could afford. Of titles I particularly liked, I bought three (or in one case, four) copies. NEW. Often from the company's site directly if they had that option.

If they had cracked down back then as hard as they do now or even harder as they are likely to do in the future, you want to know how much I would've spent that year on all that and similar items? NOTHING. I would've saved my money because I would not have known as much about those items.

    Just a little rant.

Back to the subject... If you don't know how to download, then you might want to buy reading glasses or a bigger monitor... or both...

Honestly, that's more of the exception than the rule when it comes to people testing games and buying if they like it

    Off topic but:

In my case I simply pirate games because the money I earn I prefer to use it on more useful things
like my school fees and house needs... Of course from time to time I would see a really good game
that has a beautiful box and some extras...

Soo... Truth be told I sometimes buy those games because of their box art or artbooks more than
the game itself, I sometimes even gift the UMD to my friends with OFW PSP's.

And they wonder why I buy games if I won't be using the UMD lol...

I understand those feelings so much. The box art and artbooks are so beautiful to me. Plus, I'm a collector. I think everything should be used but in various ways. Similar to how people enjoy paintings, I enjoy those collectibles as something that I can view. XD

As for why I pirate it is definitely two fold of lack of money and to see if I actually want it.

Also, to the person who said I'm an exception, I've been told that many times, but I don't think that is the case. I know more people personally who have the same beliefs as me that if we like it, we'll fork over the money to buy.

There are of course other reasons for pirating. The company no longer existing and thus the item in question can no longer be normally obtained being an example of such. Or simply even because the pirated version is of better quality than the official version. Example of games where 3 GB of the 4 GB game is DRM.... >.>

And even simply because I don't want my original copy damaged or because my original copy is no longer usable. (ie. family members that snap games when pissed off).

    Ok, maybe I shouldn't go on a tangent about this subject, I've learned one thing. These arguments tend to last for pages and days ^_^;

Let us make a new thread and play a children's card game to see who is right. I'll use my (now banned from tournaments) first turn exodia deck XD
