    Default 5.55 Fully Decrypted

    Time for some NEWS!!
Here are some good news about that 5.55 Firmware
Looks like PSP-ITA has decrypted the hole firmware using and Unnoficial PsarDUMPER of Redbull.
Here is the [url=http://pspcustomfirmware.com/psp-custom-firmware/5-55-psp-custom-firmware/psp-custom-firmware-5-55.htm]Link[url]from PSPCFW and here is the LINK from the PSP-Ita (Italian site) the site who calimed the full decrypt of the firmware... although i want to get access to that PsarDUmper i don't seen to find it and Decrypt the hole 5.55 to check the history background by myself...
So from the looks of this a 5.55 CFW is around the corner but who will release it? M33 wich we've not heard from in a long time, GEN who released the lastets Firmwares using a backwared engineering from M33 or a new group from PSP-Ita or something?

Old news...and this is only a partial dump (in fact if you check the GI Joe thread and a mysterious link i posted therein you'll see how old it is). The actual check isn't implemented by the new firmware as from the work that's been done already there is little difference noticeable. It appears (this is supposition) that the checks are in place within the game code, and there is a target within the firmware that is checked to ensure that game is ok to run. It's thought that it might be checking for a specific component of the M33 firmware or an unmodified OFW file....if we can locate the code specifying the target then it can either be changed at source or a new firmware constructed to include it.

There's also a secondary thought that the Sony np9660.prx ISO loader may have been modified so people are also investigating that for modifications.

Ultimately there's nothing on the horizon or within reach just yet, and anyone just swapping files in and out is being slightly optimistic. PSPLink is the best way to do tests for this sort of thing and if your friendly hacker people aren't using this (or at least haven't decided not to use it) they're probably not the people who are going to come up with the solution.

Thanks for the news though....it's appreciated that people actually think to post this stuff...

This is good news indeed I just hope they will hold off on releasing it long enough for Dissidia, Agito XIII, LBP, MGS, and GT5 to be beyond the point of where they can alter what firmware they run on.

edit~ Ostinato was posting at the same time as I.... in light of this revelation...well sh1t......nothing to do but hope it's sorted by the time the above mentioned games are released.....

What Osti stated is exactly what i've been fearing. it has been said that there may be actual code within the game to detect and block m33(or other)custom firmware from running these games.(something to that effect.) sounds like big problems to me.
we'll see what happens in the next few weeks.

This in fact DOESN'T look good! if what osti said was correct(and i fear it is)then it may not be possible to bypass this new security.(if you remember, you didnt HAVE TO upgrade everytime there was a new ofw release. in fact, i stayed on 3.71 for at least a year.) Hopefully they make a new cfw that has something in it to counteract this.
even better(and faster) would be to patch the current cfw to get around this check.
    5.50 gen-c anyone? :)

It's certainly possible to bypass it...it's just how long it will take to locate the problem, and that could be a while, although i expect that as soon as Tales of Vs has been out a while progress will be made (no-one cares about GI Joe). It could be necessary to patch the game, or just add or modify a file of existing firmwares. In the short term it doesn't matter, and in the long term if the problem persists it's only a major problem for those who can't reflash firmwares (TA-88v3's and TA-90v2's)

There is a pretty extensive list of PSP games to keep most anyone occupied for at least a year as it is, if you find theres not anything on the PSP itself to interest you perhaps there's the retro route, PSX SNES, NES, N64 even are all capable of running on custom firmware, I agree with in the short term this has no effect but by the end of the year this will have been felt globally if theres no work around found.
